This week on Put Your Wellies On we walk and talk with Jen Brown, founder of Meet You At The Barre. Hear about how her business became an overnight sensation when it was placed above Joe Wickes in the Daily Mail’s list of top Home Workouts during the pandemic. Working as a personal trainer for 12 years, Jen decided to take control of her time by starting her own business so she could raise her four wonderful children. She retrained in barre as a low impact and meditative exercise style to suit women in the peri to post-menopause, who are an often overlooked demographic in health and fitness.
Meet You At The Barre started out as an in person workout session in her studio, then moved online due to the pandemic. After the article went live her following exploded from a few hundred to thousands! She also donates a portion of all proceeds to charity, and is currently supporting the inspirational charity 52 Lives. We learned all about this crazy experience, her plans for the future, and her brave recognition of responsibility as a role model to other women during our walk together.
The Walk – Cuckfield
The historic village of Cuckfield is the lovely setting for our walk this week. The village itself is full of beautiful old buildings, the local grammar school dating back to Henry VII. Cuckfield is also the site of an amazing Iguanodon discovery and a bronze age settlement, steeping the village in history through the ages.
Our walk took place in the woodland between Cuckfield and Haywards Heath, beginning at Hanlye Lane. We walked a circular route that went through Blunts Wood and Paige’s Wood, protected nature reserves with a variety of natural wildlife. The nature reserve is dog friendly, as long as they are under control, and there are bridleways for horses and bicycles. It is an absolutely gorgeous area of Sussex, close to the South Downs, that is an joy for walking. The village also has several pubs to look forward to at the end, as we all know that walking can be thirsty work! For a similar wakl in the area, that takes you through the lovely nature reserve of Paige’s Wood, check out this walk.
