How to Decorate Your Christmas Tree Like a Pro
The Christmas tree becomes the centrepiece of your home during the festive seasons so it makes sense to take pride and joy in decorating it to make it as beautiful, and Christmassy as you can.
Here are some of my top tips for creating the perfect Christmas tree as well as some wonderful personalised Christmas decorations to add a thoughtful touch to anyone’s tree.
Shape your branches
Whether you have a real tree or an artificial one it’s always important to shape the branches before you start decorating, this will help your Christmas tree look more full. To do this, separate each individual branch so that they fan out and take up as much space as possible, it might also be an idea to bend branches to fill in any gaps.
Pick your desired theme
To make sure your Christmas tree looks professional it’s important to pick a theme, and colour scheme, which ties all of your decorations together. If you’re going for a traditional look you’ll want to stick with reds and golds if you would like more of a Scandi vibe try whites and different neutral shades or for a more icy look you could use blues and silver.
Start with the lights
When decorating your tree it’s always best to add the lights first because it is really tricky to add them in after you’ve put on your baubles or garlands – trust me I’ve tried. It is advised, as a general rule of thumb, to have 100 bulbs (or 5 metres) of lights per 2ft of Christmas tree. It’s easiest to start at the plug, winding the lights around the bottom of the tree and working your way up to the top. To make sure they’re distributed evenly, take a step back and squint – you’ll see what I mean.
The all-important decorations
Make sure your decorations are spread out evenly when decorating your tree – you don’t want big empty gaps. Try starting from the top and working your way down, keep stepping back to admire your handy work from a distance.
Have fun!
What’s more important than anything else is to HAVE FUN! Christmas is all about making memories with your loved ones and starting traditions that will be carried on through generations so put your Christmas Jumper on, turn up the Christmas music, pour yourself a cheeky mulled wine and have a blast!
