OUR WALK – ASHDOWN FOREST

Ashdown Forest is an absolutely beautiful area of British countryside that we are enormously lucky to have on our doorstep. There is plenty to attract walkers, not least that Ashdown Forest is home to A A Milne’s ‘Winnie the Pooh’. The Hundred Acre Wood is a lovely area with plenty of opportunities to play Pooh sticks along the way, making it a lovely outing for the whole family. However, there is much more to this gorgeous forest than it’s famous storybook inhabitants.

Our walk started at Chelwood Gate and took us through part of Chelwood Vachery, a 13th Century Medieval estate. On our walk we went via the Vachery Forest Garden, a beautiful secret garden hidden away in a valley inside the estate. The gardens have a variety of unique scenery that make this a stunning walk for nature lovers. You can find out more about Chelwood Vachery and walks in the estate from the Ashdown Forest Centre. There are also lots of great suggestions for walks throughout the Ashdown Forest here to help you plot your perfect route.

We can’t recommend a trip to Ashdown highly enough, it has been preserved beautifully and contains many historic sites, with archeological finds dating all the way back to the Bronze Age. This enormous forest has the largest area of open public access in the South East. So, like us, you will be discovering new walks with every visit, each more breath-taking than the last!
